Product Description

Pipestone or Catlinite Necklace
Pipestone is also called Catlinite, and there are only a few places in the world where it may be found. In the US Catlinite may only be dug by hand at the Pipestone National Monument in SW Minnesota, by Native Americans who have a registered plot there. The pipestone you see here was dug by an Oglalla Sioux gentleman.

Lovely polished chunk features more color variation on one side than the other. This piece has nice flat sides, ready for you to etch a design into the stone if you please --- you may use simple hand tools such as a safety pin or dental pick to etch pipestone. Strung on a natural rolled leather cord with copper accent beads. Pipestone chunk measures approximately 40mm x 25mm x 11mm.
