This powerful stone has been held sacred by such diverse people as the Mayans, Aztecs, African tribal elders, and native North and South American Indians. While there are many varieties of garnet, all of them have been considered a "Stone of Health" for their ability to transmute negative chakra energy to positive. Another designation among all garnet is "Stone of Committment" for its influence in promoting committment to self, to purpose, and to others.

Geodes usually take the form of a sphere which features a crystal-lined cavity, with the crystal points protruding into the hollow central cavity. Among the crystal varieties which can be found within a geode are quartz and quartz-family minerals such as amethyst and citrine. The metaphysical properties of these minerals stays the same, whether found in a geode or not. The geode configuration itself is said to be helpful for astral travel, and in allowing one to view the "whole picture" for oneself prior to decision making.

The keyword of hematite is "grounding," and it is particularly good at pulling excess energy through the meridians and back to the root chakra. It is also said to be good at drawing heat out of a physical body. In a seeming contradiction, it can produce inflammation if left on the same body location for too long! Hematite maintains a yin-yang balance within itself and can help others to do the same. In an earlier age, hematite was known as "bloodstone," and it is a component of tiger iron.
